Mr. Fedele serves as strategist and coach to senior executives in large and regional health systems, guiding them through to complexities in key strategies, such as, financial turnarounds, launching innovative new business enterprises, and integrating complex entities. During his noteworthy 35-year career as a leader in complex, multi-facility, academic and community healthcare systems in Pennsylvania and Florida, Jerry served in General Counsel and CEO roles. As System President and CEO, Jerry led the rehabilitation of Allegheny General Hospital and three affiliated community hospitals after removing these western Pennsylvania assets from the 1998 parent AHERF bankruptcy, the largest failure in healthcare history. At the height of the bankruptcy, the impacted hospitals were losing approximately $1 million per day. Under Jerry’s leadership, the impacted hospitals improved performance to break even within 18 months and were consistently profitable under his leadership thereafter.
Following the rehabilitation of Allegheny General Hospital, Jerry assumed the leadership role as President and CEO at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. In the year prior to Jerry’s engagement, the hospital had lost $120 million. Under Jerry’s leadership, the hospital broke even from operations within 18 months and remained consistently profitable through Jerry’s eleven-year tenure as President and CEO. Jerry engaged Caldwell Butler to provide support to continue the successful turnaround. As a result of that relationship, Jerry can speak firsthand about the impact of the 100-Day Workout and Leader Effectiveness & Accountability Program (LEAP) on margin improvement, leadership development, speed, and sustainability.
In addition to turn-around experience, Jerry has substantial capabilities in patient and employee engagement and satisfaction, elevating his hospitals’ clinical and satisfaction performance to achieve regional and national recognition, strategic development and market share growth, mergers and acquisitions, physician network development, and leadership.
Jerry held an adjunct faculty position at Duquesne University School of Law during his tenure in Pennsylvania and currently serves as Executive in Residence, Lynn University School of Business and Management in Boca Raton, Florida.
